At the forefront of innovation and blockchain technology with blockchain workshops by n’cloud.swiss

The topic of blockchain is intensively discussed by both business and IT managers. Business managers see new disruptive business models and the technology fascinates IT professionals, who were able to gain first experiences via the digital currency Bitcoin. If one wants to use this technology for a field of application, usually a number of questions arise. These surround the applications and use cases to implement on the basis of blockchain in the respective industry. Other questions concern the sensibility of data and technical restrictions to consider. In addition, decision makers wonder which transactions could be meaningfully supported by blockchains and which blockchain software supports the needs of their organization.

The Bank of England (BoE) to opt for blockchain technology

A notable actor to opt for blockchain technology is the Bank of England (BoE). Recent news reveal that the BoE plans to revise its payment system so that Fintech companies can connect using blockchain technology. The goal is to drive forward innovation in the Fintech sector by the means of blockchain and to maintain Great Britain as a leading center for Fintech innovation. The idea behind these efforts is also to prevent major EU cities such as Berlin and Paris from trying to lure Fintech companies out of the UK in the course of the Brexit. The British Government therefore seems to be concerned about new innovations in the Fintech sector and plans to redesign their real-time gross settlement system (RTGS) by 2020. This system is used for UK banking and trading in the City of London and handles transactions worth around £ 500 billion. That is almost one third of Britain’s annual economic output. The BoE announced in March of this year a proof of concept with several companies to examine how the changes in RTGS must look concretely. The technology should help to achieve the goals of the transformation. These include above all strengthening the defense against cyber attacks and increasing the range of the system. In the future, more companies should be able to use this payment system.
